Weddings are always an emotional event, but Van and Minh's day in Vancouver felt extra special. The day started at their home, where Minh&rsquo;s parents, visiting from Vietnam, joined the excitement of the upcoming celebration. You could just feel the anticipation in the air as friends and family gathered to see Van and Minh officially tie the knot.

Minh&rsquo;s sister Melody was incredibly kind and welcoming, showing how close-knit and loving their family is. Of course, their cats, Dior and Louie, added their own charm to the day. Shooting a wedding at the HMCS Discovery Naval Reserve was a first for me. What an incredible experience it was! Tucked away on a private navy base in downtown Vancouver around Stanley Park, this venue offers something truly unique for those looking for a secluded spot with stunning waterfront views, only for people who have served in the Canadian Navy. It&rsquo;s one of those places I&rsquo;d only wonder what was in there from afar while walking around Stanley Park, so getting a chance to explore the inside was an honor.

As I pulled up to the gate as Jacquie and Max were outside the gate of the naval base, both of them were holding a bunch of wedding essentials, including a TV, waiting for the gate to open. We piled into the car and crossed the bridge into HMCS Discovery. It was my first time seeing the inside of this private location, and it didn&rsquo;t disappoint. There&rsquo;s something so charming about capturing a couple&rsquo;s special day in such a unique and beautiful venue with a diverse landscape of scenery from beaches to views of downtown Vancouver.

It couldn't have been any more beautiful, just as beautiful as Max's vows, which were incredibly emotional. Everyone was touched by the words they shared for each other. These two poured their hearts out, and I couldn&rsquo;t help but feel lucky to be there documenting it all.

After the ceremony, we transitioned into family photos and bride-and-groom portraits. This part of the day was a blast. Jacquie and Max&rsquo;s bridal party was super energetic and helpful, which always makes the photo sessions even more fun. They really knew how to bring out the laughter and lighthearted moments, which made for some incredible shots. Whether it was group photos or couple portraits, HMCS Discovery offered so many diverse locations that it felt like every shot was in a different world.

After the portrait session, we headed over to the reception. From heartfelt speeches to energetic dancing, Jacquie and Max&rsquo;s families and friends brought so much warmth to the evening. As a couple, Jacquie and Max have such fun quirks that really shine through. They were both huge anime and gaming fans, which totally resonated with me. Let&rsquo;s talk about music! The playlist had some throwbacks that reminded me of my own childhood in the &lsquo;90s, making the reception even more memorable. It was crazy to hear the Sailor Moon song and a Pok&eacute;mon song! There were some serious in-depth conversations about anime. Their friends shared the same passions, which was incredible to see people so passionately speaking about things they love.

We capped off the evening with some breathtaking sunset photos by the private beach at HMCS Discovery. The sun dipped behind the mountains and Vancouver skyline, and the lighting was perfect for those golden hour shots. We even ended the night with sparklers, which always adds such a magical touch to the final moments of the day.

The day started at Manuel's family home, where we had some time before Kyna arrived. We took advantage of this by capturing a few formal group shots with Manuel's close family. The anticipation built as we waited for Kyna, who was about to surprise Manuel with the first look in the family home.

The first look was a special moment. Manuel hadn&rsquo;t seen Kyna in her dress before, and his reaction said it all. It was a genuine, emotional moment that set the tone for the day.

We began with a tea ceremony to honor their parents, a tradition that held a lot of meaning. It was a chance for Kyna and Manuel to show their appreciation for all their parents have done for them&mdash;a quiet, heartfelt moment in the midst of the day&rsquo;s excitement.

After the tea ceremony, we headed to the Cleveland Dam for the wedding ceremony. We arrived ahead of schedule, which gave us extra time for more family photos and some bride and groom portraits. The Cleveland Dam, with its stunning scenery, offered endless options for great shots, and arriving early meant we could make the most of it before the ceremony began.

Our next stop was the downtown Vancouver Public Library. This location is a personal favorite, the architecture is just incredible. We even ventured up to the rooftop, where the views of the city are breathtaking. Although taking photos inside can be a bit tricky, with a little stealth (and covering the bride with the groom&rsquo;s jacket!), we managed to capture some incredible moments.

Finally, we wrapped up the shoot at some of Vancouver&rsquo;s historic sites, like the art gallery and the courthouse. These unexpected stops added even more variety to the shoot, showcasing the beauty of Vancouver in a way that was personal and meaningful to Carman and Charles.

Have you ever wondered why pre-wedding and post-wedding photoshoots are a must? They give you a chance to create truly magical images that just aren't possible on the busy wedding day itself. On a typical wedding day, you might get 30 minutes to an hour at with most for bride and groom portraits. Sure, you&rsquo;ll get some beautiful shots, but nothing like what I captured for Carman and Charles at Deep Cove.

This session was special because we had time to explore, to relax, and to really capture the dreamy, light-heated, and romantic vibe photos for Carman and Charles. We started early, just after sunrise when their was mist still creating this ethereal atmosphere. The light was simply breathtaking, with soft, golden rays peeking through the mist, setting the perfect stage for these two.

We wandered from the pier to a quiet spot by the lake, surrounded by flowers and trees. Every corner of Deep Cove seemed to offer a new and stunning backdrop. I even brought along my trusty bubble gun for some added fun, which always adds a bit of magic to the shoot.

After wrapping up at the pier, we moved to a nearby forest area. Carman and Charles were just the sweetest, kind-hearted and full of love, which made my job so much more enjoyable. Their connection shines through in every photo, and it's shoots like these that remind me why I love what I do.

2. Picked experienced vendors:&nbsp; Choosing vendors who worked at this venue before to help you prevent any hiccups on the day off. This will help with planning a successful wedding at this beautiful location.

3. Let Nature Do the Talking: The UBC Botanical Garden's natural beauty is your d&eacute;cor's best friend. A minimalist approach highlights the venue's inherent beauty.

4. Weatherproof Your Plans: Hope for sunshine, but plan for rain. Whether it's tent rentals or an indoor backup, it's always a good idea to have a backup plan. Just in case you never know what happens, but regardless of rain or shine don't forget you're going to have a great time!

5. Give your guests a heads up on what to expect:&nbsp; Your invitation should let your guests know this is an outdoor wedding ceremony and reception that has many different terrains. This venue gets hot during the summer. This helps guests wear the proper attire when friends and family are more comfortable; this makes the experience a whole lot more enjoyable.

6. Make sure to bring enough snacks and water for everyone: A wedding on a hot summer day could be challenging for a lot of guests ensuring that you have snacks and water stations for guests to be more comfortable and hydrated on the day of is always a good thing!

7. Planning for comfort is key:&nbsp; You could also provide foldable fans for guests to beat the heat. Recommend guests bring sunscreen and shades. Ensure that you provide insect repellent for guests as it gets dark. There are a lot of mosquitoes during the reception time, not a pleasant experience getting swarmed by mosquitoes for sure!
