Vancouver Wedding at the Magical UBC Botanical Garden: A Day to Remember with Alex & Rob

September 2nd, 2023

Robert and Alex I cannot fully express how thankful I am, for the chance to capture the moments of your wedding day through photography. From our meeting at the downtown library to the photo session in South Korea your confidence in me as your photographer has been truly humbling and a tremendous privilege. The chance you took on me, to document such a meticulously planned and beautiful ceremony at UBC Botanical Garden, is something I deeply appreciate.

Your kindness, understanding, and the joyful journey we embarked on together from the start have been a true pleasure.
Alex, your attention to detail and your ability to orchestrate such a stunning wedding was awe-inspiring. Rob, your care for Alex, complemented by your kind and loving humor, added so much to the warmth of the occasion.

Being a part of not just the celebration, but also the planning and everything in between, has meant the world to me.
Witnessing the love and joy among your guests and family gave me a glimpse into the beautiful life you’ve built together.

One of my spots for capturing photos is Spanish Banks in Vancouver. The stunning view from afar along with the illuminated trees under the sunlight creates a magical lighting effect that is perfect for photography.
This was precisely why Alex and Rob chose it for their first destination on their wedding day. Opting for family photos before the ceremony wasn't just about seizing the beauty of Spanish Banks; it allowed them more time to enjoy their cocktail hour since there were fewer photos to worry about post-ceremony. This location also offered an aesthetic for your photos resulting in some unforgettable moments captured at this incredible spot. Its close proximity to the UBC Botanical Garden made it not visually appealing but convenient for all involved.

The UBC Botanical Garden, surrounded by displays and lush greenery serves as an exceptional backdrop for photos.
Every corner of this garden promises shots making it an ideal venue for weddings. The ceremonies held amidst this enchanting forest setting immerse you, in surroundings that enhance the beauty of every photograph.

The enchanting aspect however is the gardens location, for hosting outdoor receptions.
Picture yourself enjoying a meal under the twinkling stars enveloped by the illumination of lights and the breathtaking surroundings of the UBC Botanical Garden. This space doesn't just present an atmosphere; it delivers a wedding celebration that you wouldn't want to miss out on.

Please know how much you both mean to me. As you continue on your journey, whether it’s starting a family or finding your forever home, know that I would be honored to document any future chapters in your lives.

Thank you once again for everything. Your wedding was the wedding I always dreamed of photographing. Thank you for allowing me to be the wedding photographer I always want to be and I truly hope our paths cross once again!

The UBC Botanical Garden offers some basics such as chair rentals for the ceremony and tables and chairs for an outdoor dining area reception. Everything else from decor to dining setups needs to be brought in by you or your vendors. Hosting a wedding at this venue can be costly. Its unique beauty also presents challenges for planning the event. Opting for the UBC Botanical Garden as your wedding location means embracing an ambiance that cannot be duplicated elsewhere in Vancouver, BC. If you feel drawn to this enchanting forest backdrop get ready for a potentially complex planning experience. Drawing from my experience at Alex and Rob’s wedding I've gathered some insights and tips that could assist you in navigating your wedding preparations, at the UBC Botanical Garden.

1. Start planning as early as possible: This gives you ample opportunity to work with the vendors with experience with this location and know their way around the UBC Botanical Garden.

2. Picked experienced vendors:  Choosing vendors who worked at this venue before to help you prevent any hiccups on the day off. This will help with planning a successful wedding at this beautiful location.

3. Let Nature Do the Talking: The UBC Botanical Garden's natural beauty is your décor's best friend. A minimalist approach highlights the venue's inherent beauty.

4. Weatherproof Your Plans: Hope for sunshine, but plan for rain. Whether it's tent rentals or an indoor backup, it's always a good idea to have a backup plan. Just in case you never know what happens, but regardless of rain or shine don't forget you're going to have a great time!

5. Give your guests a heads up on what to expect:  Your invitation should let your guests know this is an outdoor wedding ceremony and reception that has many different terrains. This venue gets hot during the summer. This helps guests wear the proper attire when friends and family are more comfortable; this makes the experience a whole lot more enjoyable.

6. Make sure to bring enough snacks and water for everyone: A wedding on a hot summer day could be challenging for a lot of guests ensuring that you have snacks and water stations for guests to be more comfortable and hydrated on the day of is always a good thing!

7. Planning for comfort is key:  You could also provide foldable fans for guests to beat the heat. Recommend guests bring sunscreen and shades. Ensure that you provide insect repellent for guests as it gets dark. There are a lot of mosquitoes during the reception time, not a pleasant experience getting swarmed by mosquitoes for sure!
